I posted this mainly for a quote from the article 'thinking past the drink', which states,
'In this age of social media, your actions could have a lasting impact on your reputation.'
just posting these links for no particular reason :).

i was howling watching cedars latest video of tm111 buying a dozen bottles of scotch ((maccallans scotch).
you can't write this stuff.
right, i'm now off to buy a bottle of maccallans 😂..
After reading through a lot of the replies to this thread I understand that it's important to have balance.
With that said, these are my personal comments/ queries.
1. Buying this amount of alcohol at once speaks of a luxurious lifestyle, certainly unexpected of a person who has taken a vow of poverty.
2. If it is for personal use, who is paying for it?
3. If they are gifts, who are receiving them, for what and is it sending the right message?
4. Alcohol is a very important part of someone's life if they are buying it in this quantity.
5. I can see the owner of a small/ lmedium business dropping this kind of cash on alcohol to give to clients but once again, that's a worldly custom and not something most people would expect from a gb member.
i think i’m going insane.... i’m 17 years old and being raised in a jw household.
i really want friends and a boyfriend but i can’t have that because my parents are jw and i’m also homeschooled.
they are those jw parents that refuse to let me go to public school because of bad influences.
You're only 17, so hang in there and try to be patient. Tough age to get through.
Whatever your feelings, unless you are being abused, your home is probably your safest bet unless you have heaps of cash to take care of yourself. If you don't and you leave home, you might find yourself at the mercy of others.
Keep educating yourself in the meantime. Have a plan.
Hope it works out for you.

I want to be in Tony's bunker.
we all know the society would love to get rid of all the problems caused by clinging to 1914 and all they claimed it meant for the last 100+ years.. it looks like they are laying the groundwork for easing away from the whole concept of 1914. this would also let them do away with the ridiculous "overlapping generation" bullcrap.
what a diaper load that has been.... anyway, the following is from their super secret marching orders for april, 2019. draw your own conclusions.... "3.
“100 years of faithfulness”: the coordinator of the body of elders, or another elder, should be invited to read the following special announcement.
Not surprising if this is real. A lot here have speculated about not if but when they will drop the 1914 date.
Waiting until 2019 makes sense because it is now 100 years since the last date tied to 1914, the war in heaven, the casting down of Satan and finally the establishment of pure worship on earth in 1919.
After 100 years with nothing to show, even the gb must realise they are pushing it.
Edited to add, I have often wondered if they would consider switching their equations to the secular date of 587 for the starting point of the end time prophecies. This would buy them another 20 years. I'm sure they could come up with something significant occurring in 1934.
have any of you come across this rare breed of jw?.
i know a brother who spends 9 months of the year living in a caribbean island where he is an active jw and then he flies back to his home european country for 3 months to work and save up so he can fly back out again.
he is an active jw in his home country.. he's not a missionary and has never been to gilead though he attended pioneer school back in the '90s.
2 jw families I know are having a 6 month 'preaching holiday' in Europe right now and spamming instagram daily with their wondrous experiences.
Apparently, it's not bleak, ex-soviet countries that need help, it seems to be the exceptionally beautiful parts of Italy.
so much for global warming its a damn hoax.

TD,
Thanks for that.
I read the article and if you think it says global warming is a hoax, you should probably read it again, assuming that you read it in the first place.
when i post i try to imagine that i am at a social gathering or sometimes in someone's house as a dinner guest.
that way it is easier to follow the community guidelines and posting rules set out on the site at the bottom of the page.
i wouldn't want to make a fool of myself in public.
Well said Simon.
As I have gotten older, I realise that most situations are not black and white and it's not healthy or helpful to categorise people or their views. Most people have a spectrum of beliefs.
Personally, I am over the whole right - left argument. The more it's used, the more tribal the parties seem to become, as Cofty pointed out.
A good example is the gun debate. What's wrong with loving the right to own guns, yet admit that allowing the general population easy access to guns carries inherent risks?
